With the start of the new year, professional growth may be on your list of intentions or goals. The HSMAI Sales Rising Leader Council met to discuss the importance of continual learning in our career development, and how there are always opportunities to grow.

So, how can you make sure that you’re continuing to grow and develop? Here are five things the rising leaders are doing to ensure they’re meeting their professional growth goals.

1. Set aside time each day for learning.

It doesn’t matter how busy you are – if you make time for learning, you’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish. Just 15-30 minutes each day can make a difference! Listen to a podcast while you’re getting ready, driving to work, or working out!

2. Identify your learning goals.

What do you want to learn? What skills do you want to develop? Once you know your goals, you can create a plan to reach them.

3. Find a mentor.

Having someone to guide and support you can make a big difference in your learning journey. If you don’t have a mentor, look for someone who can provide advice and guidance – they don’t have to be an expert in your field, but they should be someone you respect and trust.

4. Take advantage of online resources.

There are endless online resources available to help you learn new things. Take advantage of HSMAI certificates and resources, LinkedIn learning, to name a few!

5. Embrace feedback.

Feedback is essential for growth. It can be difficult to hear, but it can also be incredibly helpful. Use feedback to improve your understanding of what you’re doing well and what you can work on.
